Italy – Day 8

On Day 8 we went to San Gimignano, a small hill town in Tuscany. The town is famous for its medieval architecture and towers. In the 12th century, the city had over seventy towers – built by wealthy families to show off their wealth and power. Fourteen towers remain today.

We drove to San Gimignano on back roads that wound through the countryside. We stopped a few times to snap some photos of this very charming area.

As we approached San Gimignano we could see the old towers and the city walls.

It was amazing to me that people live in these buildings that are thousands of years old! In my hometown (in Connecticut) there are houses that are from the 1600’s and I used to think that was old!
