Our last day in Tuscany. We returned to Florence to spend the night in a hotel near the airport as we all have early flights the next morning. After packing and checking that I didn’t leave anything behind, I took a stroll around the villa and snapped some final pictures.
Remember the picture I took of the luggage for four of us earlier on the trip? Well, here is the luggage for five of us packed in the back of the van – there was also some on the seat next to me!
We stopped in Pontedera to do a little shopping and in Empoli to have lunch, then on to Florence. Our plan was to stop at the monastery of San Miniato to hear Gregorian chants at the afternoon prayer service and then to the Piazzale Michelangelo (Michelangelo Square). It is a famous square with a magnificent panoramic view of Florence. Unfortunately there was no parking at the monastery so on to the Piazzale.
The square, dedicated to Michelangelo, has copies of some of his works found elsewhere in Florence: the David and the four allegories of the Medici Chapel of San Lorenzo. But it is the view that takes your breath away!
